Jeff, I really didn’t pay attention to any of that stuff. I’m pretty thin, and I had trained for and run a marathon a few months before this, so I doubt my body would have changed much from 50 days of running. I was doing some strength training at the same time, and I remember putting on a little muscle during this period, but beyond that I don’t recall.

Nadine White-Boyd, a Boston qualifier who trains with the West Boynton Road Runners club, started her first run streak over the summer of 2020 when gyms were closing because of COVID-19. “I never thought about doing a run streak because I also enjoy working out in the gym, and if I was running every day I wouldn’t have time to do that,” she explained.

Between Nov 2015 and Nov2016 I participated in my first 3 races ever: a marathon, a 50k, and anothe marathon. (I feel in love with running years ago, but I’d never thought of doing it with other people until this past year.) After a disappointing performance in my last marathon, I’ve been having trouble not feeling defeated, having trouble regaining my love for the sport. I went from running 4-6 days a week to barely running at all. Yesterday, I thought that maybe starting a run streak would help kick me out of this funk. Last night, a friend mentioned that he saw (but didn’t read, hah!) an article about running even just one mile a day, and it made me realize that… A run streak doesn’t have any rules in regards to how far or how long you run each day. All that matters is that you run. And so, some days, I’ll have time for an hour or two on the trails. Other days? I may be busy, but not so busy that I can’t take 9 or 10 minutes for a quick mile. And in regards to a run streak – that is OK! Today I stumbled upon your article, and it cemented my desire to try and do this for as many days in a row as I can. Thank you!

Like Matt, I see a ton of value in starting a run streak. A few years ago I had one going myself, which lasted 442 days leading up to a massive group run on my wedding day.

Ok, nice blog, interesting comments and lessons. I am in my fifth day of my 365 day streak. Running in low temperatures is quite a challenge up here in canada. We are in mid winter and temperatures drop down to -18 to -26, (celsius or fahrenheit, its the same, very very cold) like today. Going out is a big challenge. I think it adds another dimension to the goal, to fight the weather every day. Ice is treacherous, dressing is different, running over snow is harder than pavement. I have been running for three years but this is my first streak, inspired by a colleague that did 535 outdoor days streak. I am having fun though…your blog is inspiring. I wish you could talk more about your difficult moments of hesitation, what you did, and how to keep going, i hesitate every time i check the thermometer. Thanks, i learned a lot reading your 50 lessons.
